Redlands, CA - Edwin "Bruce" Rowland, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully at home on March 11, 2026, following a seven year battle with a rare bone marrow disorder and a stem cell transplant. He was a man of great integrity and compassion and was loved and respected by those who knew him.

Born in Pittsburgh, PA on March 5, 1948, Bruce was the only child of Eleanor Patterson and Byron Rowland. He graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School, and from Penn State University and Harvard University with degrees in Landscape Architecture.

In 1971 Bruce married Linda Crow, his high school sweetheart and love of his life. After college the Rowlands moved to Norris, TN where Bruce had a 30-year career with the Tennessee Valley Authority. Bruce also worked 20 years with ESRI (a leader in GIS technology) in Redlands, CA. He loved both his careers, people and most of all he loved his family. Bruce and Linda enjoyed traveling, visiting all 50 US states and many national parks. Bruce played and watched many sports, especially football, and loved spending time with family and friends. He had a great sense of humor and was known for his storytelling and mentoring.

He is survived by his wife Linda, son David Rowland, daughter-in-law Meredith and Grandson William Bruce Rowland of Norris, TN and daughter Karen Rowland of Nashville. His close extended family includes 2 sisters-in-law Patricia Hartley and Barbara Goerlitz, brother-in-law Mike Hartley and 4 nieces (Jennifer, Lisa, Christie and Liz -their families) and Aunt Rose Patterson.

Bruce was a long-time member of Redlands First United Methodist Church (where he served on many committees and attended the Men's Bible Study Group) and of Norris Methodist Church (where he led the adult Sunday School Class).

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider a donation to City of Hope Medical Center in Duarte, CA where Bruce received treatment, or Redlands First United Methodist Church.
